neugerriemschneider presents a solo exhibition of the Billy Childish' most recent paintings (some still wet) that have an unusual command and power. From self-portraits often showing the artist hill-walking or with his son, still lives with flowers featuring pots made by his mother, to images of boats on the Medway Estuary and canvases depicting the Swiss writer Robert Walser based on police photographs showing the author dead in the snow, the artist's paintings are highly expressionistic, conveying a sense of visionary significance that he discovers in objects, places and people.
This presentation will be followed up with a solo exhibition at the neugerriemschneider gallery, Berlin in September.

The presentation at ' la maison de la poésie' will focus on Childish's poetic and polemic text-based works. Curated by the artist Betty Leirner, a selection of sign-written placards, distressed posters, books and other publications by Childish's publisher and London gallery L-13 will be on display. These wordworks exude a raw, direct, sometimes brutal, sometimes gentle power that offers both a challenging audacity and an unusual, captivating beauty, ranging from the poetic 'Unknowable but Certain' placard to the confrontational and humorous 'Love the Art Hate / Hate Box' from last year's 'National Art Hate Week' as well as material concerning the 'World Art Hate Day 2010 '.

After many months of hard labour on a pepprcorn budget, the L-13 Light Industrial Workshop and Private Ladies and Gentlemen's Club for Art Leisure and the Disruptive Betterment of Culture is finally open.
On show is a selection of recent works by all the L-13 artists alongside L-13 propaganda and editions.
